YISO NO.4 - FRANCOIS & AMAURY POP BY

4 Worms + 2 French boys = POP music. Here's the science bit..

WORMS IN SPACE

Yes, Bristol worms in space.

Boxing day!! Found a peanut in my pocket, penny crayon. I went to my Mum's allotment to dig up some LEEKS for dinner. Ha! yes this really did happen..like in 'The Good Life'. I am a top leek thief! Half moon was watching me..moon moon moon was my only witness! Was that a line in a song? It should be! I'll make that song then, the leek song. Was quite tired from the big leek dig so could'nt manage to do much more. How does Tony Robinson do it? I used the leeks in my big soup i cooked for the old folk. Leek, potato & bacon soup. A last crucial minute addition of garden peas really shook things up and gave it an edge, ha! Fantastic stuff! Soup! HELL YEAH!

We got the mastered songs back which sound great! Thanks Rueban! Rueben or Rueban? He's a Fence Collective man i'm pretty sure. I've seen him kicking around with James Yorkston outside the Co-Op throwing stones at Coke cans and swearing at old ladies.

Watched 'School Of Saatchi' on TV, terrible. Reminded me of being at Uni doing fine art. Really made me feel ill. It needed to be MORE like X-factor in my opinion. It was neither clever or dumb, it sat right in the middle. Watched my 1st 'I'm a Celebrity' of the series on ITV2. They were trying to have a serious discussion about Jordan's exit. we really needed Paxman in the jungle!

Today felt like Christmas day.

Loads of stuff from last night's dream came true today (including bloody badger guts all over my legs). I seriously believe i can see into the future through my dreams. Can't do Lotto though. Went to an 80 year old's birthday party. I ate 3 puddings and cheese and biscuits, i am now soo fat i have no neck. "Two!! two!! three!! one!! two!!" Ahh i only needed two more barley to win. We played a odd game called 'Pit' that i've never come across before. Basically it's just loads of people shouting numbers at each other and it's LOADS OF FUN! "THREE!! FOUR! ONE!!! PIT!!!"

Soundtrack

Aphex Twin - 'Selected Ambient Works Vol II'

Woke up with the song 'Knights In White Satin' in my head. My brother wrote this about me.. "The Simon Cowell trousers are getting higher, the teeth are getting whiter & your 'flat top' is taller and flatter. The next step is perhaps for me to find a way of dealing with you as the Cowell train is gaining momentum. Lord have mercy on us all."

OLO songs...done! OLO artwork....done! ALL GOOD, ALL GOOD BABY!! Can't wait for this to come out now!! News on that soon.

Went to Hertford for a night out to celebrate (the above) with a mate. We watched the football and saw a ropey pub band who loved dry ice, TV theme tunes, and guitar solos just a bit too much. We tore up Dominos Pizza! They called the cops on us so we ran out, popped on our half shells and climbed down into the sewers with Splinter and the rest of the gang. Then we watched the final Jedward performance. From this point onwards i'm now OFFICIALLY AGAINST Jedward now they are out and not the underdogs anymore.

201109

I dreamt that i played horror film soundtracks in a supermarket on my old battered, out of tune guitar...and they sounded amazing!! Had my nan on the phone in the morning hinting heavily that she'd like the Susan Boyle album for xmas. "Only £8 from Amazon. Amazon is it? Did u see the Albert Hall on TV last night James? They were all there...Lily Allen, Shirley Bassey, Dizzee Rascals!". Another day, another load of blood boiling stress and anger on Google Wave. Pictish Trail just calmed me down. Its nice to talk to a real human after Google Wave. My Tippex skillz are off the hook!! Loads of Tippexing and blowing of Tippex, this is the reason why i have a blog..to tell you about 'the Friday i used Tippex'. Remember Tippex mouse!?? HA! Went out for dinner at the wine bar in the high street. I'd been in joggers all week, i tried to put jeans on, could'nt. The jeans are getting smaller, i CANT be getting fatter. This was gonna be the first time i'd been outside in 3 days. I brushed my teeth, sprayed some deoderant, shaved and headed out on 'the pull'!..with my Mum. "She's nice James!" "Awww...Mom! Stop!". Ate food, drank beer and had a nice time til my Brother hung up on me in a strop. Strangely enough, this time i didn't actually say ANYTHING wrong. Weird one that boy.

Zac Efron is made completely out of clay and melted down chess pieces..FACT! I'm sick of everyone going on about his chess face. I painted a swamp, not every day you do that is it? The previous night i dreamt Eminem died and i slept in his bed. Downloaded the new Animal Collective EP which is AWESOME! 'What Would I Want Sky' might just sneak in my top songs of the year (yes i'm thinking of my lists already). In fact i had a really great day of colourful music! (see list below). I even managed to listen to two albums called 'Gorilla' well, slightly different spellings. Who likes their record covers messy? Ours will be! Just spent the day cutting and glueing and moving things on photoshop. Used every flag in the world, i could'nt let any country down..although there is no English flag. Went a little mad and forgot to eat dinner.

Great news!! King Kenny loves our new song! That's King Creosote don't cha know! Well chuffed. We spent most of the day trying to decide if we were gonna go with 'The Elastic (WAIST or WASTE) Band'? I wanted 'Waste', always have, it was me who came up with the name in the first place for god's sake! It went to the deadlock so we called on the King again and he voted for 'Waste!'. Big win for Hankins! I got some good gloating in later when the others found out.

We gave the new songs to Pictish Trail and he replied: "it's like 'Come Together' Primal Scream meets Apache Indian".

A very nice sunny day in Bunto so i went for a drive then later ate a Mars bar. 2 Mars bars in fact! Got called a 'egocentric psychopath' on Facebook. Watched the new Beyonce video with Gaga. Gaga looks more weird than normal cos she actually looks normal! Beyonce is still a big lady. Felt a bit down in the dumps about myself and so on (boring) then just as i was beginning to feel better and began climbing my way out of the pit of doom i found a Hollyoaks hunks calendar on top of my wardrobe..oh jeeez!! "put those six packs away boys before i cut my wrists!"...or i 'll cut you! ahhh, i stumbled across an idea! I turned to Tony Hutchinson and took the scissors to his muscles and began to cut circles. These circles would go on to form part of the artwork for the new OLO songs. Waste not want not, or..waist not want not? Only OLO's will get that bad joke. The song is about kinda about men's weight issues so it worked out perfectly in the end. The calendar was meant to be found on this day at that precise moment. Thanks God! I worked out who the calendar belonged to. She thought she had moved all her stuff out the room...how could you forget Tony! Later i had a random thought 9from God?) to shave my head. I stuck a thing up on Facebook to let friends vote if i should or not and of course they voted YES. I was gonna give it a go myself but my Mum came to the rescue and did a decent job until near the end where she thought she'd leave her mark by digging the clippers in giving me a comedy bald patch. Nice. I stuck some gel in and styled a Jedward for the evening. There was a time when i cared about my hair, that time has gone. I ended up using my freshly cut hair in the artwork too. I glued it to the photocopies of my feet to make hairy feet.

Set off at 6am to drive back to Bunto. It was kinda fun being up at that hour. There was no one about at all..apart from all the early morning ghosts and foxes. I stopped off for a sausage sandwich and Skips and ate them in an empty car park like Alan Partridge. Took a wrong turn somehow and ended up in central London queueing to get in during rush hour and then queueing to get out. I had to stop in Hertford and used the walk from the car park to listen to a mixdown of one of our new songs, ahh i was soo pleased with it! I stood and watched a man (doing my old job) cleaning a function room in the town hall where i used to work when i was 18. I imagined my 18 year old self listening to the song while hoovering the carpet and tried to think what i would have thought of it. As i walked through our front door and into the kitchen 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart' was playing at full volume! What a welcome home! I was soo shattered i could barely mumble the words.."once upon a time i was falling apart, now i'm always falling in love" ah no, that's The Beta Band version, ha, i always get them mixed up. Steve Mason's right though, the lyrics work better that way round. Spent some time correcting the mistakes in the magazine piece that was written about us. Sneezed and split my lip again! I came up with a really great ending to one of the new songs but got over ruled. I know i'm right, i'll leave it for a while and let the others catch up.

The big news story on Saturday 14th November 2009 was that Bruce Forsyth had the flu.

I'll just leave a gap there.

I had a pretty scary drive to Bristol in my Grandad's car in the wind and rain. I had an iced bun on the passenger seat to keep me safe though. Bought a new phone to replace my old one that's now decided to not show me what's on it's screen. I bought the cheapest piece of crap i could, which turned out to be the crappiest piece of cheap. I hate it! *MASSIVE Christmas hint* I'd love an iphone. I FINALLY collected the last of my Bristol belongings (known as 'crap corner' even now when there is no corner. Even now all the stuff is here in the house, in the loft it's still 'crap corner'). I was amazed how i managed to squeeze everything into the tiny car boot. I even got my old Subbuteo astro pitch in there! I really enjoyed driving round Bristol at night with all the Christmas lights up and all the Saturday night tarts stumbling about. I had the amazing new Hyperdub '5' comp & Hudson Mohawke album on full whack. It was COSMIC! like the film 'Tron'..."all because of cosmic driiiiiver!". Fish & Chip supper and X-Factor in the evening (i'm soo normal!). Found a DIME BAR! Hav'nt had a Dime Bar in years! yeah i remember why now.

Sunday was to be the last day of recording for the new OLO songs (news on those songs will be posted later in the week). It was the first day in our brilliant new practice room. Had a great time and we made big steps towards finishing the two songs. We started at 8am and did'nt finish til 6pm, then we moved onto The Crystal Maze (my old flat) where we continued til 1am with just a short break for a Domino's Pizza & few tins of Stella. It's quite a stressful task this music game. Highlight of the day was when we all recorded our 'Sister Act 2' style backing vocal.."SWAMP THING!!!!!".

Soundtrack
Hyperdub - '5' Compilation
Hudson Mohawke - 'Butter'
Wild Beasts - 'Two Dancers'
OLO Worms - 'Back From England'

Got some OLO tour dates through, can't say where or when they are but just keep late Jan 2010 free. I recorded the sound of the Boot Camp swamp (pond) for one of our songs. Watched another 'Curb' from the new series..soooo funny! Probably one of the best ever! "Someone threw my blackberry in the ocean!!" "I date the disabled!". I'm behind now, i think i've got 3 to catch up on. A plasterer called in at the house. He talked to me about punk, then Joy Division, then New Order, then his phone started ringing and i got to finish my day. Spend time thinking bout OLO YISO digital packs, physical packs, the out takes & mixtapes. You probably don't know what i'm on about, you will soon, i'll bore you to DEATH! Ate an ICED BUN for pudding and was told "you're out of control!" Raaahahahahahahahhahahahaha!! Really?? Watched Sarah from Girls Aloud on Jonathan Ross, it was like watching a moth drowning in cold cup of tea.

Soundtrack
Gary Numan - 'Replicas'
Velvet Underground - 'Velvet Underground & Nico'
Half Man Half Biscuit - 'Back In The D.H.S.S'

Drove to Toys R Us. Bought a horse game for the DS...no, not for myself. I forgot how grim Stevenage centre is. Popped in at the Royal Mail sorting office. Tried & failed to get postmen to whistle the new OLO tune although i did manage to record myself whistling in front of them. Stopped off to see my Dad & dog, my Dad told me i had put weight on. haha! tis true!! Ate apple crumble when i got home, that's the second time this week! Jesus! woooo!! Recieved a telephone call from Scotland..great great news!! I'll tell you when i'm allowed. Helped move a TV, my reward was fish & chips..that's a pretty good deal. Long fish in my belly. Wrote a few words about our new songs for a magazine piece. From my bedroom i overheard someone read out the events of 2005 to someone else on the phone for a speech. "..Prince Charles and Camilia married, London bombings, Jamie Oliver started his school dinner campaign.." It made me chuckle.

Chin shaved, teeth brushed, sock over mic, lyric sheet in hand, Mum in town...home alone rapping!! ELVIS LIVES! Just as i was about to do my 'Back From England' vocals a crow outside my window butted in and advised me put a hat on, it worked! By way of thanks we'll keep him on the recording. I got nervous, what other MCs get butterfly tummys?!?? Whiskey and lemonade calmed me. I think i did ok. Brain pounding stress with these new songs..we all seem to be confusing each other. 'Elastic Waste Band' has to be cut from 8mins to 5mins. Low Fat edit! I didn't cut it but thinking bout it has stressed me out. I wanna be in Bristol with the other 3 sorting this mess.

091109

My 287th National Express coach trip (i'm guessing) back to Bunto. I returned home to a heroes welcome..and burgers and apple crumbles! It was one of those Mondays that really should have been a Sunday. Heard a rough mix of our new 'Back From England' song. Left me feeling a bit down at the time, it shouldn't have done. I rushed in with negative comments without thinking and started a little Google Wave war with my bandmates. It's all peace and love now.

THE WELCOME COMMITTEE - LIVE (8th Nov)

A report can be read HERE.

081109

BIG day of recording! Got to the studio room early and proceeded to waste a few hours recording wet limp drums (it's all good now). Our French friend Francois & his friend Amaury turned up and saved the day! Francois played trumpet, Amaury played drums. Together they sprinkled their magic over 'Back From England' and now it's spicy!! You gotta love the French! Later that evening i went and caught fellow Carrie Vanilow's play as The Welcome Committee at Mr Wolf's which was shambolically splendid! I heard a thump behind me, i turned round and thought i saw a big black poodle slumped on the floor..not another dead dog i thought..the dog turned out to be a Brian May look-a-like..she just carried on drinking at the bar, i don't think that had been the first time she'd fallen over that day. They were doing 2-4-1 noodles at Mr Wolf's, i couldn't argue, 2 bowls of noodles later i couldn't talk. I ended up drinking cans of cider watching DJs press buttons.

071109

Went to the seaside (Clevedon), It was gloomy but we had fun. We ate crumpets on the pier, threw rocks, saw dead dog on beach, ate chips and dead dog pies, wet our socks, and recorded all the sounds there. We could'nt get in to the Royal Mail so the next stop on the FUN bus was Southmead! We drove around looking for trouble with our recorder out the car window. In Sommerfield i got hit in the balls with a shopping basket by a 'friend' for doing a bad U2 joke. The big man (G Jones) cooked us all a chilli and we all sat down and watched possibly the best X-Factor ever! "Who's seen Gummo Simon! Gummo isn't a film Simon! Silly song Simon, silly song!" Louis Walsh is soo funny! I'm hoping tomorrow's theme is 'the songs from Gummo'. Jedward were of course out of this world! What will they do this week? Exciting! Even one of me fave Dave Lynch films 'Mullholland Drive' got a mention! Ha! how weird's that? We watched it with subtitles which gives the X-Factor another level of enjoyment. Slept on the sofa while others went out to old men pubs.

Bristol again. Had a few hours to kill so went to the movies. I can't get in free anymore. They've destroyed my staff pass card. So i took my revenge and watched two films for the price of one. It's really easy..just hop in whatever screen you like, no one will stop you. Saw 'Fantastic Mr Fox' & 'Up'. Loved them both especially Mr Fox. Such a NICE film, and i mean that in a good way, normally when you use the word nice you are covering up for the fact you don't really like something. But this was NICE and gentle and funny. The animation was amazing!! After a quick pit stop i was onto Pizza Express for a meal out with friends. Soo weird, i don't normally do this. No money you see. There was some kinda money off deal but it was'nt worth it. Terrible service, i left 3p tip. Missed St.Vincent due to the fact the pizza was late...yeah alright, i was late too. I HATE The Anson Rooms! Worst venue in Bristol by far. Grizzly Bear were great but here is a list of the problems with the venue - massive queues for the bar, expensive drinks, toffs in the crowd, non-stop talking by the crowd, no one in the crowd cares about the band!, no atmosphere, bad views, boring boring box room, & they chuck you straight out after the gig. Got dragged kicking and screaming to a house party. Ha! nah, you know i love a random house party, always trouble though. Well normally, but this was the worst house party i've ever been too! The girl i went with did'nt know anyone there so we sulked around trying not to get quizzed. I sat in an empty room with a mug of vodka with the world's worst DJ. I ended up sleeping in a cold empty room with a glass of water and slice of stolen bread with my hoodie over my cold cheeks...NOT THOSE CHEEKS!!

OLO DIARY (Nov Part 1)

Dear Diary,

We got Google Wave. We surfed it. We WIPED OUT!! Arrrrrrggghhhhh!!! 'Back From England' is all about balance. We're all trying to stay on the same board while the sharks nip at our toes. We're nearly home and dry (on the warm sandy beach). Will be finished next week as will 'The Elastic Waste Band' which has been cut from 8mins to 5mins. Its the LOW FAT edit. The creamy full fat version will be on the album. Just sent some info on the new songs to a man who is gonna pop it in a magazine. We might have a new den to hang out in soon.

Regards,

Had some wonderful news today concerning our recording session on Sunday! it's allant être spécial! Watched quite alot of the OLO demo videos we film when messing about. I forgot a few weeks ago i had made up a new 'song' called 'ANTS AGAIN'. There's no other lyrics. It's more a question.."Ants again!!??". It's got HIT written all over it. Packed 4 pairs of spongy umbro sports socks for the weekend in Bristol, ROCK N ROLL!! The suitcase is on my bed now, i should be in that bed now! SHOCK HORROR! I applied for a job today. So glad i managed to avoid the low point of the decade 'Piers Morgan meets Danni Minogue' on TV. I'm right back into TV at the moment, i think it's having a nice room to put the TV in. Where do you have your TV? Had a good idea about the recorded version of the OLO song 'The Barber Shop'. I wanna get aload of guests for a sexy whispered intro. I have people in mind. It's gonna be like one of the skits off De La Soul's '3 Feet High And Rising' except less cool (although they were geeky at the time too). Didn't bother with fireworks tonight, we had a curry instead. Remember remember..on the 5th of November...be careful kids! Never touch the naan after it's been lit!!

Arrrrgh!!! This internet connection feels like its made out of jenga blocks sometimes. I can't complain, it's free. Started doing a design job for computers, well for humans..that deal with computers. I'd like to work for a computer, i wish my one paid me everytime i did a blog. Maybe a penny a letter? That's fair. I'm talking to my PC now. The money could come out the cd drive. Imagine picking up your boss and smashing him onto the ground! I don't know what a FANLESS INTEL CORE 2 DUO is but it's getting the Heinz Junkins treatment. I've been booking coaches and planning to borrow cars back and forth to Bristol over the next 2 weeks. I could really do with my own jet plane or big eagle..oooh i'd love a big strong bald headed eagle to hold on to. Headache from new emails, gmails, no females. Although i have got Jamelia on 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks', i've always liked Jamelia, big big fun! Tall fun! Wooah Van Gogh! Watched his life reduced into 15mins on TV. 10p a go! That's 10 letters typed on my computer, about 3 seconds work. I ate way too many CARBS..maybe even a jar full! A JAR FULL OF CARBS! Just before bed....makes the dreams go down, the dreams go dooooown.

I cried!! I had a good old weepy snot session. I don't remember the last time? I don't remember tears tasting like that? Like salty sea water. I went for a run to try and make myself feel better which it did but not before a strange 5mins where i was running and laughing at the same time. It was real fun!! It felt grrrreat! While jogging i was listening to Why?'s new album which is really really great! and perfect for a cry jog it would seem. Earlier in the day i drove to Hertford to say hello to the nice people at the job centre. I've gotta say it was one of the best drives i've ever gone on. I took a wrong turning and added about 20mins to my journey home but that didn't matter cos i had 'Alopecia' which is one of the greatest albums ever made!! (my no.2 of 2008). I don't think there is anyone writing as good lyrics as Yoni Wolf right now (apart from me of course). They are the kind of lyrics that make you laugh out loud and sigh with sadness at the same time which kind of suited my strange mood. Later i cheered myself up with a great idea! I was in the bathroom stepping out the shower (i like to wash my body you see) when i thought..DANNY DYER MUGS! i MUST make some Dannny Dyer mugs! For Christmas. People will buy their loved ones Danny Dyer mugs this Christmas! It was a crystal clear vision. In his speech bubble shall i have him saying "plum!" or "you plum!"? I ended up googling Danny Dyer for the next half an hour and had to force myself to stop. I stopped for 'Life' probably my favourite TV show right now although i ALWAYS fall asleep at the end, it's David Attenborough's silky Gaxaly chocolate voice. It's AMAZING! errr Obviously. Dear God, i DO NOT want to be a mud skipper fish in my next life thank you kindly. I'd like to marry a sea dragon & dance underwater. Although i don't wanna taste those salt water tears again for a while.

A day i'd rather forget. I suppose i could just skip it and not write anything.

That gap represents my mind during the hours 7am > 7pm. Halloween really took it out of me. Spent most of the day asleep in a parked car while the rest of my family did their best to try and sell their goods. We were at an art market thing near where Noel Edmonds records his box game. Do you like the box game? I used to. I saw it recently and i wanted to smash the TV with little Noel inside. My postcards and T-shirts got in the way of everyone so they got taken down, ha! Good job really as i was up against a pro T-shirt seller directly opposite our stall. I had 1 design, he had about 50! 50 to 1. If i'd been in a bookies i would have had a couple of quid on me scoring first and him winning 20-1. I had a few vistors pop there heads in the car and scare me which was nice. I was really white and ill and kept dreaming i was in the market fussing about. Earlier in the day i finally cleared all my junk from 'crap corner' from the old flat i used to live in and took it over to another friend's house who now has got her very own crap corner. In fact she's got a whole room of crap! It's pretty impressive. On the drive home to Bunto we listened to 3 hours of Tony Hancock which was great! I really like Hancock, ever since my Grandad introduced me to his TV shows when i was young. My Tony Hancock sad face melted all over my pillow.
